Zen Garden

Zen Garden is a restaurant and events venue on Lower Kabete Road in Nairobi's Spring Valley, open since 2008. The 2.5-acre property is laid out in the style of an Asian urban garden and brings together Bamboo, a Pan-Asian restaurant, the Jade patisserie, a conference block called Zen Square, padel courts and a series of lawns.

Zen Square, the conference block, has been refurbished and comes with a business centre offering internet and photocopying, and the meetings page lists five rooms in all. The largest, the Zen Room, seats 60 at round tables or 80 theatre-style and holds 100 for a cocktail reception; Zen 1 takes 30 at a banquet or 50 standing, and smaller rooms suit boardroom meetings of 12 to 20. Parties can also use the Upper Lawn and the Jade and Lower Lawn, and private dining is offered in the screened Bamboo room and the Zen dining room, which opens onto the terrace.

The venue hosts weddings, from small gatherings to larger receptions, alongside birthdays, children's parties, afternoon teas and bridal or baby showers. Its business side covers meetings, board meetings, team building, conferences and breakfast meetings, and it also stages product launches, pop-up shops, art installations, fitness classes and cocktail events.

All food comes from the in-house kitchens, with Pan-Asian dishes such as dim sum, sushi and wok cooking or international menus, and the bar mixes bespoke cocktails; outside food and drink aren't allowed. Conference packages cover tea breaks, lunch, a 112-inch screen with projector, flipcharts, Wi-Fi, air-conditioning and free parking, and Google Maps lists wheelchair-accessible parking, entrance and seating. A full conference day is priced at KES 6,000 per person, with breakfast meeting, afternoon tea and children's party menus quoted per head on the venue's package sheets. Events add a 10% fee on food and drink, and bookings need a 50% deposit.
