The Last Village Lodge

The Last Village Lodge is a Swahili-themed adventure lodge in Lukenya, Athi River, in Machakos County, about 33 km from Nairobi. It stands on a hilly compound off Mutungoni Road with views over the plains and the Lukenya, Mua and Kilimambogo hills, and has 16 guest rooms, a restaurant with coastal-style decor, a first-floor bar and a swimming pool.

Rather than one main hall, the lodge offers a mix of indoor and outdoor venues: a private event room, sections of the garden and the poolside, alongside its conference facilities. It doesn't publish capacities for any of these spaces, so group sizes need to be confirmed with the lodge.

Its packages cover weddings, graduation parties, children's birthdays and baby showers, alongside full-day and half-day conferences, meetings, training and team building. The wedding package includes vows in the gardens or by the pool, a buffet lunch with a soft drink, basic furniture, garden photography, a complimentary honeymoon room for the night and special room rates for guests; a DJ and MC cost extra. Team-building days use professional facilitators and the lodge's own activities, including quad biking, archery, zip-lining, high ropes, swimming, cycling and hikes in the Lukenya hills.

Catering is in-house, with meal plans tailored to each group, and the bar serves cocktails, wines and local drinks. Meeting rooms have LCD projectors, flat-screen televisions, built-in PA systems, writing materials and high-speed internet, and a conference coordinator helps with set-up. The event packages mention ample, secure parking and free Wi-Fi. From Nairobi, the lodge is reached by turning off Mombasa Road just past the Athi River bridge onto Mutungoni Road, or via Kangundo Road.

From Nairobi via Mombasa Road: cross the Athi River bridge, turn left at the Delta petrol station onto Mutungoni Road and drive about 15 km to a long concrete wall on the left; the lodge sign is ahead on the right. Via Kangundo Road: about 100 m past the Athi bridge (Welcome to Machakos banner) turn right at The Last Village sign and drive about 8 km; the lodge sign is on the left after a long concrete wall.
