About this space

Sankara Nairobi is a contemporary five-star hotel at 05 Woodvale Grove in Westlands, Nairobi, part of Marriott's Autograph Collection. It has 168 rooms and suites, a rooftop pool, a health club and six bars and restaurants, among them Graze Steakhouse, the Italian Osteria Romana and the Sarabi rooftop bar, which looks out over the Westlands skyline.

Its event space totals a little over 250 square metres indoors. The three Woodvale Ballrooms on the first floor are finished in wenge wood, Italian marble and modern African art, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a terrace for breaks. Woodvale One and Two each hold 100 theatre-style, 80 for a reception or 48 at a banquet, while Woodvale Three suits about 35 theatre-style or 15 at a banquet. Used together, the hotel says the ballrooms cater for up to 220 guests. A boardroom in the business centre seats eight. Outside, the 600-square-metre Woodvale Garden is listed for up to 350 guests.

The hotel pitches itself mainly at business meetings, conferences and corporate gatherings, but it also hosts weddings, cocktail parties, product launches, fashion shows, exhibitions and charity dinners, with Marriott-certified wedding planners to help couples organise the day.

Catering is provided by the hotel, with menus, décor and audio-visual set-ups tailored to each event, and every function room has complimentary high-speed internet and built-in audio-visual equipment. A private boardroom and business centre sit alongside the ballrooms for delegates who need extra support during a meeting. Secure parking is available, and guests travelling in for a conference or wedding can stay in the hotel's rooms and suites. Before booking, it helps to know that the indoor rooms are moderate in size, with the largest single ballroom seating 48 at a banquet, so larger groups would need the combined ballrooms or the garden.
