Royal Nairobi Golf Club

About this space

Royal Nairobi Golf Club is a members' golf club on Muchai Drive, off Ngong Road in Nairobi. Founded in 1906, it is the oldest golf society in Kenya, and alongside its 18-hole course it runs a clubhouse with a main bar and fine-dining room, a gym, a spa, a swimming pool, and squash and tennis courts. Its function rooms and grounds are also hired out for private and corporate events.

Indoors, the club offers three meeting spaces with audio-visual equipment: the Executive Board Room, the Functions Room and the Gym Complex Board Room. For bigger or outdoor occasions there are two outdoor venues, the Bowling Green and the Gym Gardens. The club doesn't publish capacities for any of these spaces; its website mentions catering for groups as small as a private dinner for 10 or a business lunch for 30, and says its banqueting venues can take weddings as well as small functions, so it is worth asking which space fits a given guest list.

The club markets its venues for weddings, banquets, birthday parties, business conferences, private meetings and corporate lunches. Companies can also sponsor events on the course, such as corporate golf days, charity golf events and club nights, with branding around the clubhouse and fairways; these are arranged through the club's golf office.

Food and drink are handled in-house, with full catering and bar service, and the club's function coordinators help with menus, décor and entertainment. Packages are tailored to each booking and no prices are published. Practical points: the club has a main car park, and the club applies a dress code inside the clubhouse that rules out hats, sunglasses, sandals, sneakers and shorts, which guests should know about before the day. Bookings go through the events team by email or on the club's two main phone lines.
