Banana Hill Art Gallery Presents: “Self Talk” – A Powerful Solo Exhibition by Ronnie Ogwang

Nairobi, Kenya — June 25, 2025 | The Banana Hill Art Gallery is proud to present “Self Talk”, a stirring and deeply personal solo exhibition by acclaimed Ugandan artist Ronnie Ogwang. Running daily from Saturday, June 7 to Sunday, August 31, 2025, the exhibition invites viewers into an immersive, introspective world where art becomes a mirror to inner dialogue, identity, and transformation.

“Self Talk” is more than an art exhibition—it is a visual meditation on memory, loss, faith, and resistance. Drawing from his own journey of personal growth and grief, Ogwang explores how the self is shaped, broken, and reborn through life’s most profound moments. The exhibition is rooted in the quiet power of internal conversations and the vulnerability it takes to truly listen to oneself.

Born and raised in the vibrant streets of Kampala, Ogwang’s work is informed by the textures of urban life, spiritual tradition, and personal trauma—particularly the loss of his mother, whose influence remains a central pillar in his work. A graduate of Makerere University, Ogwang blends painting, photography, and graphic design, forming a layered, emotive visual language that is both innovative and unflinchingly honest.

At the heart of “Self Talk” is Ogwang’s signature “masking” technique, a method that involves building textured layers of acrylic to conceal and reveal. These canvases become visual poems—echoes of voices from within. Through this contrast of light and shadow, calm and chaos, the exhibition tackles themes such as spiritual conflict, the fragility of identity, gender expectations, and social resistance.
