“Sarah” tells the story of a young Maasai girl whose dreams of education and independence are challenged by the weight of cultural expectations. While her daily walks to school with her best friend Evelyn are filled with hope and ambition, a sudden financial crisis within her family threatens to redirect her life through the traditional rites of passage associated with marriage, including female genital cutting (FGC).

As Sarah’s parents navigate economic hardship and societal pressures, the family is torn between honoring tradition and embracing a new future. Her mother finds herself caught between the voices of change and custom, while her father contends with deeply entrenched communal norms. Meanwhile, Evelyn faces her own personal struggle as she’s pushed toward the cut in preparation for an early marriage.

But this is not a story of despair—it’s a narrative of defiance, dignity, and dreaming beyond imposed limits. Encouraged by young Maasai warriors who champion the fight against outdated practices, Sarah begins to realize she may have the power to shape her own destiny.
