Get Reel Films by Docubox Brings Bold, Unfiltered Stories on Sexual and Reproductive Health to UNSEEN Nairobi This June
Nairobi, Kenya — June 11, 2025 | This June, Docubox and UNSEEN Nairobi present an unflinching and vital film series, Get Reel Films, screening every Friday from June 6th to June 27th, 2025. The series offers a rare platform for East African filmmakers to share bold and deeply personal stories surrounding Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights and Justice (SRHRJ).
Through a curated collection of eight powerful short films, Get Reel takes viewers on a cinematic journey across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi, shining a spotlight on the real experiences, challenges, and triumphs surrounding issues often silenced in many communities. From unintended pregnancies and sexual violence to HIV stigma, mental health, and sexual education, these films confront deeply entrenched taboos and bring urgent conversations into the light.
Told through the authentic voices of East African storytellers — many inspired by real-life experiences — Get Reel doesn’t shy away from the complexity or sensitivity of the topics. Instead, it invites audiences to reflect, empathize, and engage in meaningful dialogue around issues that affect millions across the region.
By challenging cultural norms and harmful beliefs, these films aim to break the cycle of silence and shame that often surrounds SRHRJ topics. They serve not only as a tool for advocacy but also as a catalyst for social change, inspiring audiences to rethink stigma and embrace conversations that foster justice, dignity, and inclusivity.
Join Docubox and UNSEEN Nairobi this June for an impactful, eye-opening film experience that goes beyond the screen. Together, let’s challenge injustice, confront stigma, and amplify voices that too often go unheard.
