UNSEEN Nairobi Presents: Searching For Amani – A Poignant Tale of Loss, Justice, and Environmental Awakening

August 12, 2025| Nairobi, Kenya – Throughout the month of August 2025, cinephiles and socially conscious audiences are invited to experience Searching For Amani at UNSEEN Nairobi, with daily screenings at 7:00 PM until August 31, 2025. Directed by Debra Aroko and Nicole Gormley, this 2024 feature-length film runs for 1 hour and 40 minutes and is presented in both Swahili and English.

Set against the stark beauty and harsh realities of one of Kenya’s largest wildlife conservancies, Searching For Amani follows the journey of a 13-year-old aspiring journalist whose world is upended by the mysterious murder of his father. What begins as a personal investigation into this tragedy soon evolves into a broader mission—one that uncovers the devastating human cost of environmental degradation and climate change.

As drought tightens its grip on the land, the young protagonist’s search for justice reveals interwoven layers of political, social, and ecological struggle. His transformation from grieving son to determined activist embodies the resilience and courage of a generation forced to confront the consequences of a warming planet.

Why This Film Matters:
Searching For Amani is not only a gripping narrative but also a timely commentary on the intersection of personal loss, environmental crisis, and community action. It invites viewers to reflect on pressing issues—land rights, wildlife conservation, and the socio-economic impacts of climate change—through the intimate lens of a child’s determination.
